Sampling
in the Stuart System
As
explained above, biologists will be continuing to attempt
to capture sturgeon in the Stuart system, the largest tributary
to the Nechako River . Sampling is done by capturing sturgeon
and measuring them to assess their:
- Age
- Growth
- Physical
health
- State
of sexual maturity
- Genetics
By
monitoring these characteristics, researchers hope to find
out the following about white sturgeon in the Stuart:
- Their
relationship and linkage to the known Nechako River mainstem
population.
- If
there are juvenile fish present and spawning occurring in
the Stuart.
- Basic
information about the biology and population of white sturgeon
in the Stuart system.
