Since
2001, a group of highly dedicated technical personnel have
formed a Recovery Team to develop and lead the technical aspects
of the recovery of the Nechako sturgeon. In addition, a group
of representatives from communities, all levels of government,
industry and individual stakeholders within the Nechako drainage
have formed an Action Planning Group to support recovery efforts.
Together, the Action Planning Group and the Recovery Team
form the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative.
The
Carrier Sekani Tribal Council participates on both forums.
Member bands of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council are working
with the governments of British Columbia and Canada , as well
as with non-government organizations and local community groups,
to save the Nechako River white sturgeon.
